For Personal Service Setting Operators
As a public health unit, we provide a variety of resources and services to personal service setting (PSS) professionals.
Personal service setting operators
As an operator of a personal service setting, you have a responsibility to ensure that you are following the best practices and regulations set out by the Province. Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) will inspect your PSS at least once every year for compliance with regulations and to confirm that infection control practices are appropriate to protect clients.
We disclose inspection results online through our ChooseWise website and also on-site to be transparent with the public and to comply with Ministry requirements. We also disclose any lapse in Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) procedures on our Inspection Disclosures and Infection Prevention and Control Lapse Disclosure pages.
Record Keeping
Every operator of a PSS must keep certain records:
- Disinfection records
- Sterilization records
- Records relating to invasive procedures
- Records related to accidental exposures to blood or bodily fluids
Operators must keep these records at the PSS location in a secure fashion for at least one year, or until the PSS ceases to operate, whichever is sooner. After the first year, you may keep the records in a secure location off-site, but still readily available upon request, for an additional two years.
