Vaccine Information for Health Care Providers
Respiratory vaccines are the best defense against getting and spreading the viruses, helping save lives and reducing the strain on our health care system. To be prepared for this fall season, it is important to act early and not wait for an increase in disease activity.
Influenza
Flu vaccine is expected to arrive in Kenora on the week of September 30, 2024. It will be distributed to local NWHU offices the first week of October. If you provide flu vaccine, you will be notified when your allotment is ready for pick-up.
All available influenza vaccines can be given at the same time, or at any time before or after administration of other vaccines, including COVID-19, RSV or monoclonal antibody products.
Dryden, Fort Frances, and Kenora – NWHU will not be administering high-dose flu vaccine. This will only be available through partners.
For details about initial allotments of flu vaccines, see our Flu vaccine initial allotment table.
For more information on eligibility, timing of immunization, and vaccine products, please visit the Ministry of Health’s Universal Influenza Immunization Program page.
COVID-19
We expect the new KP.2 COVID-19 vaccines will arrive early to mid-October; start placing orders now so you can provide both flu and COVID-19 vaccines simultaneously.
- You can order influenza and COVID-19 vaccines by emailing vaccinedepot@nwhu.on.ca.
COVID-19 vaccines can be administered at the same time as, or at any time before or after other routine vaccines.
Covaxon accounts (needed to administer COVID-19 vaccine) need to be used every 45 days, or they are shut down. If you/your staff need your account reactivated, please contact jbarrette@nwhu.on.ca.
For more information including fact sheets and documentation, please visit the Ministry of Health’s COVID-19 Vaccine Program page.
RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus)
The RSV vaccine can be co-administered with other seasonal vaccines. Co-administration is encouraged to help mitigate the impacts of the respiratory season.
For information on eligibility and guidance documents, please visit the Ministry of Health’s Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) prevention programs page.
To order RSV products, please use our Flu/COVID-19/RSV order form.
Pneumococcal Vaccine
Earlier this year, updates were made regarding pneumococcal vaccines.
For more eligibility information, see the Canadian Immunization Guide.
