A new tool to help drivers slow down in school zones!

Published on

Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU), Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), and the Town of Fort Frances work together to make school zone areas safer.

This image shows a group of people, including two uniformed police officers, standing next to a digital speed limit sign displaying "Your Speed" on a suburban street. The sign is equipped with solar panels, indicating it's powered by renewable energy. The group consists of various individuals likely involved in the safety or implementation of this traffic control measure, gathered to either inspect or inaugurate the sign. The environment includes a mix of snowy and clear patches on the ground, suggesting it might be late winter or early spring.

A new road sign that displays the speed of approaching vehicles, has been installed on Second Street East near Robert Moore School.  Funded through the Ministry of Transportation’s Road Safety Community Partnership Program, the sign will help reduce driving speeds and improve student and community safety.

“Radar signs are known to reduce drivers’ speeds, and we are grateful for the opportunity to have a new sign to help protect our students,” says Officer Matt LeBlanc from the OPP.

Slowing down and staying alert while driving helps keep children and youth safe!  A reminder that the speed limit in school zones in Fort Frances is 40 km/hr regardless of the time of day or time of year.
