Measles Update

Published on

Following yesterday’s media release from Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) regarding a possible case of measles in Sioux Lookout, laboratory test results have confirmed that this was NOT measles.

NWHU advises that anyone who was isolating or monitoring after exposure, can discontinue these measures.

Those due for a measles vaccine can contact NWHU or their health care provider to make an appointment. The measles clinic scheduled for Saturday, June 1st at NWHU office in Sioux Lookout has been cancelled.

“Measles is highly contagious and airborne, requiring prompt action on probable cases to prevent its spread and protect those who cannot be immunized,” says Sandra Krikke, manager of Infectious Diseases at NWHU. “There is currently no known risk of measles in the community. We appreciate everyone’s quick responses and diligence during this situation.”
