NWHU supports provincial vaccine passports
With a looming fourth wave of COVID-19, Dr. Kit Young Hoon, Medical Officer of Health at Northwestern Health Unit (NWHU) supports the provincial government’s decision to implement vaccine passports. The decision, announced today by Premier Ford requires that anyone attending most higher-risk indoor public settings must be fully vaccinated.
“Being fully vaccinated for COVID-19 reduces the likelihood of spreading the virus to others. By limiting access to higher-risk settings to those who are fully vaccinated, it protects our communities and our health care system,” says Dr. Young Hoon. “I applaud the Premier for making this decision. It will save lives and will also help to keep our local businesses, workplaces, and schools open,” continues Dr. Young Hoon.
The province notes that as of September 22nd, 2021, the public will require proof of their vaccination along with a photo ID to access the settings. A digital app is being launched by the province after that date and will feature a QR code for businesses to scan.
