Public Health Alert – New Disease of Public Health Significance
Situation
Effective January 2025, Candida auris (C. auris) is now classified as a Disease of Public Health Significance (DOPHS) under the Health Protection and Promotion Act (HPPA). As such, confirmed cases of C. auris infection must be reported to the Medical Officer of Health either through the NWHU online reporting system or by fax.
Actions requested
- Please remove and destroy all old Disease of Public Health Significance (DOPHS) lists. Access the updated list from NWHU website.
- Please access updated information from Public Health Ontario.
- Public Health Ontario is hosting an information session PHO Rounds: Candida auris: A New Disease of Public Health Significance the session is full; they encourage you to join the waitlist. If a ticket becomes available due to a cancellation, you will automatically be moved up and notified via email with your ticket details. Pending speaker consent, PHO will record the event and post the recording along with the presentation slides on the PHO Presentations page. They invite you to visit the PHO events page for updates and event materials.
